The boring tasks of learning Greek result in increased cognitive engagement, slower reading, and increased time and attention to the Word. For this reason, the fruit of that slow transformation that comes from the simple reading of scripture is amplified significantly.
Learning Greek includes some time-consuming, boring tasks. Learning and reviewing vocabulary, for example, or learning and reviewing paradigms. For some there is not enough benefit to justify the effort, especially during the early stages,.
But pursuing the biblical languages is worthwhile not because it means we’ll be able to have a conversation in Greek, or even about Greek, but because it means that as we engage with the word of God, our love for the God of the word increases, and thus, God is more glorified in us.
If you want to love the Lord more and be more satisfied in Him, you need to take on His character, His values, and His desires and commitments. This comes from regular exposure to His character, His values, His actions and self-expressions in the Scriptures that He authored through His Spirit for this purpose.
The boring tasks of learning Greek allow us to engage with His Word more richly, by putting aside the modern English filter and forcing us to follow the author’s thinking without reordering or adaptation. But even engaging with the scriptures this way can seem boring if we don’t expect that the desired transformation will take time. Biblical fruit comes from the slow, steady seepage of His Word into every corner of our hearts, into which we allow it to penetrate.

That is the power of small, consistent steps. That is the power of the Greek Mastery Success Path. This is why we at BMA rejoice in the small and seemingly insignificant, because we long for the pure spiritual milk of the Word, which grows our love for Christ and glorifies the Lord. Boring tasks are part of the transformation we long for.
